The Effects of Kinesio Taping on the Muscle Activities of Vastus Lateralis and Medialis in Patients with Degenerative Arthritis

Abstract

|
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of kinesiotaping on the muscle activities in patients with degenerative arthritis. To evaluate the effects of taping therapy, we calculated activation of vastus medialis and vastus lateralis.
Methods: 40 female patients with degenerative arthritis of knee joint were participated in this study. Muscle activation were assessed by using a surface EMG. This procedure was performed with and without taping.
Results: The activation of vastus lateralis was significantly increased in comparison between pre and post test. And vastus medialis was significantly increased in comparison between pre and post test.
Conclusions: We thought that kinesio taping have effectiveness on the muscle activation of vastus lateralis and vastus medialis in patients with degenerative arthritis.
